KIRSTY MYERS, A BRITISH MILITARY FITNESS MEMBER AT ABINGTON PARK IN NORTHAMPTON, TELLS US WHY TRAINING WITH HER DAD BRYAN AND SISTER NICKY IS SO GREAT.

I first heard about British Military Fitness from a flyer I picked up in the cafe in the park. I was hooked after my first free trial session. After noticing my weight loss and improving fitness, Dad was inspired to come along. My sister, Nicky, joined too as she was aiming to get her figure and fitness back after the birth of her second baby.

MOTIVATING EACH OTHER

We have all participated in a variety of different types of exercise over the years. We all enjoy running, and have participated in the Great North Run on a couple of occasions together to raise money for charity. Dad has also played football and cricket. However for Nicky and me, once our children came along it became more difficult to find time to train.

British Military Fitness appeals so much to us because we all enjoy exercising outside. Training with family members means that we can motivate each other if one of us doesn't feel up to attending a session. Nicky and I both lead hectic lives, working for the NHS and running around after our children. I like the fact that for an hour I can hand over my body to a British Military Fitness instructor, and they will work it to its maximum potential and get the best out of me.

SIGNIFICANT WEIGHT LOSS

Since joining I have lost 3 stone, and Nicky has also lost a significant amount of weight. I feel much fitter, and have knocked about 10 minutes off my previous 10k time. This allows me to keep up with my children, such as running the wrong way up an escalator without getting out of breath after my 3 year old suddenly changed her mind about getting on, I couldn't have done that before British Military Fitness.

Dad is a very active Grampy with his five grandchildren, recently going out for a four mile run with his 9 year old grandson. He has also joined us on 10k runs recently.

‘DAD’ TIME

Nicky and I enjoy having some ‘Dad’ time at British Military Fitness. As girls, we seem to find time to do things we enjoy with Mum more easily, but British Military Fitness has given us a special 'Dad' activity. Mum helps to support this by being a back up babysitter if our husbands aren't available.

I’ve now progressed to a green bib, red for Nicky and Dad (although he's temporarily back in blue after suffering from pneumonia earlier this year). In addition to British Military Fitness sessions we also took part in some local 10k runs and the Major series last year.

Most importantly, following Dad's heart attack in 2008, we feel extra lucky that he's still here with us, and thanks to British Military Fitness we can all enjoy having an active, fit and healthy Dad and Grampy.
