Senior Fitizens! Surrey over 60s have never felt fitter

Staying in shape is never easy, and when you get older, the challenge can become even more difficult. But two over 60s from Surrey are proving that age is simply a number as they train with BMF in their local park. Former Financial Services Manager, Ian Harrison, 71, from Camberley in Surrey and former British Airways Engineer Stewart Kettle, 67, from Windlesham both regularly train at Frimley Lodge Park and say that since joining BMF they have never felt fitter.

Ian, who has two children and three grandchildren, currently trains up to three times a week with BMF at Frimley Lodge Park in Surrey.  He commented: “I retired from my job as a Financial Services Manager and had no intention of slowing down! I spotted a free trial for BMF in my local paper and thought I would give it a go! My first session was a little tough but I enjoyed it so much I decided to sign up and haven’t looked back since. I have now been attending BMF sessions for the past four years and I absolutely love it and can now do twice as many burpees as when I started!”

Married father-of-one Stewart, who trains up to three times a week, added: “What’s great about BMF is how approachable everyone is – new members are welcomed and encouraged and all the instructors are so helpful with any questions you might have. They encourage and motivate each individual to reach their maximum potential, and make the sessions fun and something I really look forward to.”

Ian said training with BMF has helped him to keep healthy. He added: “BMF keeps me young, it allows me to mix with people of all ages and everyone is so friendly – there is certainly lots of banter!”

“I’ve improved my stamina and endurance no end. I particularly enjoy the opportunity to get a little competitive, obviously in a friendly way, but it keeps the mind active as well!”

Stewart, agreed, and added: “I certainly think going to the classes has improved my health. I have always tried to stay fit, but working out in the great outdoors has certainly made me feel a lot fitter and the bonus is definitely all the friends I’ve made. I’d recommend it to anyone – not only do you get fit, but it’s so sociable as well.”

Both men are now encouraging their peers to get fit, whatever their age.

Ian said: “I want to encourage other people my age to give it a whirl, you get a free trial session so you can see if you enjoy it. Age is no barrier to effective exercising.  Anyone can stay active and have fun at the same time - whatever age you are!”
