Why you should train like the British Army

The British Army sets the standards for soldiers to BE THE BEST!

They have high standards when it comes to uniforms, equipment, personal admin and professionalism.

Fitness is top of the list to ensure that soldiers are capable of enduring operations under duress, to enable the men and women to stay alert and carry out their tasks at the required times.

From the day you join, you’re expected to undertake a regime of fitness classes that will push you to limits you have probably never endured before!

Endurance is a most valuable training option, which is carried out regularly by units to enable personnel to keep going when they would normally give up. This is in the form of battle PT and squad runs in full operational kit, consisting of uniform including boots and a helmet, webbing and your personal weapon.

PT sessions are planned by the Physical Training Instructors (PTIs) to include body weight exercises! They also tackle outdoor bootcamps which are completed both individually and in squads! Obstacles are there for a reason, as in the theatre of battle, units will cross water, climb walls and scramble under fences, barbed wire and so on! PTIs encourage, with a high degree of urgency, personnel to tackle these obstacles in the most efficient and safe way! Team work is essential when tackling a 10ft wall, there are normally 2 people at the top of the wall and lifters at the bottom who will clasp the feet in cupped hands and lift the climber up and the top guys will then assist them over the wall keeping as low a profile as possible!

In a battle scenario, troops are often under stress and being fit and good nutrition are essential to keeping a sustained high level of efficiency! Personnel often play sports, enter races and take an exercise class outside of the services and compete at the highest levels. If you can exercise regularly, your body will cope better with stress and recover from injury much quicker than if you have a sedentary lifestyle.

Exercise improves blood supply to all the major organs and therefore the bodies own defences against infection are delivered where they are needed quicker! A fitter person will recover from illness and injury faster than someone who does not train!

The methods taught during fitness classes are from years of experience and ensure that personnel, have what it takes to BE THE BEST!
