Taxi Driver’s Weight Loss Journey

Andrew Gearing from Stevenage in Hertfordshire was a sedentary taxi driver and a smoker who had done very little physical activity since he was in his 20s. Now he’s lost more than three stone since joining British Military Fitness in January 2016. So, how did he do it?
Andrew was looking for a fitness class because he had an upcoming medical that his job required. He signed up after hearing about BMF on the radio and encouraged a mate to go with him.
Andrew, 45, who trains at Fairlands Valley Park under the watchful eye of Park Manager Anthony Thompson, said: “A friend and I went along for our first session on the Friday and it killed us! I’d done no exercise for 20 years so it was going to hurt.
“I started going once a week, took some time out, went back again on an unlimited membership so I could commit to going twice a week and then really noticed the difference.
“I started eating sensibly too – just cutting out all the rubbish - and stopped smoking. I was 17 stone 12 and now I’m 14 stone something and have gone down three trouser sizes too. I’ve also made some really good friends in the park and, of course, I passed that medical!
“It’s changed my life. I’ve got more energy and I just feel great. With the encouragement of the fantastic instructors at Stevenage and my fellow BMFers, I've gone from a very unfit blue bib to a much fitter red bib. Now I’m looking at taking part in the Major mud runs and various other challenges.”

BMF Instructor Anthony said: "Andrew has been a pleasure to train. He has shown more and more dedication towards his goals each week. It is great to see how happy and confident he has become as a result of his weight loss.
“Within the park he has been an inspiration to all, especially our beginners. He has progressed nicely through the bib system and now sits at a comfortable red. I know he is hoping to work towards green in the future. Good work Andy! Keep it up!"
