Layer Up

The seasons are a changing, clocks are being wound backwards, and with that the days are becoming shorter and the nights darker. But, many of you tell us how much you love training in Autumn, so long as you are suitably prepared for your classes.

We’ve asked our instructors what their top tips are for the change in temperature, so you can continue to enjoy your training.

Here are our instructors’ top five tips:

1. Layer up. Wear many light layers not one heavy layer - you will be able to have better temperature control by wearing many light layers rather than a heavy hoody or jacket.

2. Wear gloves. Head and hands are most likely to feel the cold so look after them, invest in a pair of thin Gortex gloves and a hat.

3. Check your trainers. Worn out soles will make you slide on the wet ground, increasing the chance of injuries. Trainers should be replaced once every six months and we recommend cross-trainers or Fell Running Trainers for the winter. These are an excellent investment and are great for muddy ground.

4. Be prepared. Keep a section of your bag, or bring some plastic shopping bags with you for any wet or dirty clothing because there will be some. Pack a spare t-shirt and warm fleece for after the class.

5. Be safe. If you’re worried about making your way in or out of the park during the dark then please mention this to your Park Manager at your venue, they won’t bite. Also, on your park’s Facebook page you can connect with other members to coordinate transport to and from parks.
