Our kit classes bring a new dimension to a BMF session by applying different styles of training to your fitness regime. Our BMF instructors are not only highly trained and experienced in using all of the equipment, but also commit to ongoing professional development. This ensures that we continue to be the undisputed leader in outdoor fitness and keep up to date with the latest fitness industry requirements.
Kit classes are dynamic and challenge you to try new exercises and develop skills that ultimately improve your overall fitness levels. Your instructors will focus on correct form and posture when using equipment to ensure you apply the best technique and gain the maximum benefits. The equipment we use varies from park to park, however you are likely to see the following kit come out of our vans:
Powerbags
Power bags have many benefits for high level sporting performers. Power bags allow movements to be produced under resistance, which help to develop power through technique. The instability built into power bags forces recruitment of the stabilising muscles during training. Power bags have a soft structure, which allow them to be thrown and caught, excellent techniques to assist in the development of powerful movements.
Slam balls and medicine balls
Slam balls can be used for standard weight-lifting exercises in place of free weights and for dynamic exercises that involve an increased cardiovascular aspect. Slam balls are also effective for athletic training because they improve muscle mass, cardiovascular endurance and hand-eye coordination. Medicine balls are typically used only for standard lifting exercises because they are not meant to withstand impact like slam balls do.
Tyres
The use of tyres is similar to that of many other training aids, they allow for variety and for increased resistance. The proper use of tyres can be used in group activity and ensure members are pushed to work hard
Body bars
The Body Bar is a simple exercise tool made from a single piece of steel coated with rubber to cushion your grip. The Body Bar can be used to work out the entire body and can replace barbells or dumbbells in many exercises. It can also be used as a prop to aid balance when performing one-legged squats as well as stretches. Body bars allow a simple and effective method of training that replicates exercises performed using dumbbells or barbells. The shorter length of the bar allows for easy carrying and group exercise.
Kettlebells
The kettlebell is a piece of fitness equipment that is both dynamic and versatile. Kettlebells are used by specialist-qualified instructors to bring more variety to classes and increase the range of military style fitness. They bring a wide range of benefits to our sessions including developing functional strength and dynamic flexibility. Not only are they great fun to use but they are also effective at working the entire body.
Power bands
Resistance band exercises are widely used by a variety of health and fitness professionals, both for general strength and conditioning as well as rehabilitation or injury prevention. They are extremely adaptable and a large number of resistance band exercises can be developed with very little additional equipment. In particular, they target smaller muscle groups that are hard to train with more traditional free weight exercises.
Utilising some of the equipment above enables our instructors to target various components of fitness such as strength, power, speed and coordination. This ensures a much more balanced cross training program with BMF and will help you achieve a higher level of overall fitness.
Kit classes are held periodically at various locations around the country and you should speak to your Park Manager to find out when these sessions are available.
